What is the R12 Life?

Paul describes the life of a believer in his letter to the church in Rome 2,000 years ago and that description is what drives us every day.

“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Paul, Romans 12:1-2

The R12 (Romans 12) Life finds its roots in these two verses and it is centered around four words beginning with I. This is the Power of I and outlines the life, I believe, God is calling us to live.

INTENTIONAL – “offer your bodies…your spiritual act of worship” This ‘I’ encompasses the aspects of culture, change and decision making. We must be intentional in everything we do and every decision we make as spouses, parents, leaders.

INFLUENTIAL – “I urge you brother…” This ‘I’ encompasses the impact we will have on others as we intentionally interact. It deals with the concepts of ethics, communication, trust.

INSPIRATIONAL – “be able to test and approve what God’s will is” – This ‘I’ picks up the influential component and supercharges it with vision, motivation and personal care. It is not enough to simply influence but who are those we can truly inspire.

INSTRUCTIONAL – “be transformed by the renewing of your mind” – This ‘I’ will keep us from sitting back and settling. We are all growing, being transformed, challenged in’ our thinking. None of us have ‘arrived’ and we all have much to learn. We are talking on going intentional personal development, community building and mentoring.

These four I’s are the power behind living a life worthy of the calling God has given each of us!
